Emmaline Bags

I just finished a cute little purse, wristlet, hold what ever this evening by designer. Emma line Bags . I learned how to install 2 zippers on a bag of which I have never done before. #emmalinebags The process went smoothly. She writes excellent directions and has great pictures to go along with the project. I also lined this and I have not done that on a wristlet either. So it's really good quality. Would recommend if you want to sew bags or get other cool sewing projects, she has something for you. She is also one of the designers in my new Bag Of the Month Club of which I got as a gift from my husband.. (thanks babe) Now I can sew a bag every month and not be board of what to do. Or just click on the Logo to your right for more information on what the Club is all about. I found out also as I was making this purse, the Adult Coloring book worked. I went slower. Read the directions better and in general was more relaxed doing the project.

Color Me Quilty: Board Basting?

Color Me Quilty: Board Basting?: Nope, not a typo (although, I sometimes do get bored while basting, not my favorite part of quilting). I'm constantly looking for new wa...

Dress a Girl

I have joined an organization called Dress a Girl. What we do is sew dresses for babies and young ladies and pants for boys. I'm glad to part of such a community. Here are my first two Dress a Girl Dresses. The dresses are to be made via a pillow case pattern. You don't have to use pillow cases but you do have to use 100% cotton. Since i have a new embroidery machine I figured I had something to give and can dress up these cute dresses. You can purchase the labels or they will put them on the dresses. The label is a mark so the children are not targeted for traffickers or non nice people. here are my first two and I'm very excited to be able to do more.

I got it

Today, and last night, July 4th, I got the pattern to make myself a blouse that fits my bodice and looks and feels great. I had to take patience, and determination that this can work. I prayed.. I said God, you sent teachers to teach us how to do this that want to do this. I said, I want to do this. I can learn. Please help me get the information so I can use it and then I can pass it on and say, yes, it matters. I made like 4 prototypes of the blouse. There were all not so good. They weren't failures, they were lessons to be learned on how to follow directions. Kathleen Cheetham said, be patient. That's also what it takes. It does not matter if it takes a week or a day or a few hours to get something. The end result, as Rev. Walkers, said, you got your tea.. I got my tea and it's great. I feel very blessed and grateful for the lesson and I know, and I know, and I KNOW. I will learn how to make a pair of slacks following the directions and being patient and most of all, enjoying the body, I'm living in.. That is all. Take this class, Adjust the Bust, and you also will get right bodice for your body. It's not your body, it's the pattern companies. So, don't get discouraged.

Keeping it dry

I'm on a keeping it dry mission. I have thighs that touch each other and in the summer, that's not cool. No, It's not cool at all. MOF: It's pretty darn hot. So, I decided to make these cool, long leg undies. Ya, we talking like Spanx. No, they do not have the elasticity as Spanx because then, they'd be too hot. So, these are made out of cotton, and 5% spandex. You need that in the waist area an the leg area so they don't rise. They are very comfortable and I tell you, no more sticky thigh.. Check them out. They are by S.U.A.T. so you can make some if you like. I bet, once you try them on, you will love them very much.
If you'd like a pair, inbox me, on Facebook at Cheryl Samms or Ancient Herbals. Love to share the love with you.

Sure it Fits

Yes, yes, yes. Well, all my years of sewing I've never had a slipper actually fit my chest area. Well today, I finished making the bodice of my Sure Fit Designs and it's a hit. I just need to bring the front dart back a little as it's not suppose to be right at the apex. it's suppose to be 1 to ½ inches from the apex. But hey, that is not a problem. I can do that. The arms were excellent. I had to try to get a few measurements myself so I was off a few. The sleeves were at least 1" too short. the dart on the sleeve looks like it could do down a bit toward my elbow more. Otherwise, I have no complaints. It fits. It fits so well I could put buttons on it and lower the sleeves and fix the dart and hey, it's better then the craftsy class, just saying. This one did not frustrate me at all. Just took it slow. Did a little at a time. Listen to the DVDs before proceeding and it came together for me. With doing this yourself, you know where to fix what. If it was done by someone else you would not understand it. Doing is learning for me. Now also to work on easing in that shoulder caps. don't like those.

Measure, Mark, Make

Well today, had a good day in that I got to finish all the measurements for the Sure Fitss design patterns. It really is nice and easy. I didn't get board. Will take it slow so it sinks in. It's amazing how much you can do with this one pattern. Tomorrow I will cut out the fabric and possibly start sewing up my Body Blueprint. Next I cut out an amazing skirt Pattern Simplicity 1166. This will rock out great in my Love4Ankara Fabric. Washed and iron and cut out. Ready to be sewn up:)

Sure Fit Designs

Got my Sure Fit Designs and took my measurements. Bought the special fabric to make a tester of the bodice. Joanns had a good sale today and will the rest of the week at 50% off. Bought a lot of thread now .. I need more hooks to hold the thread.. :( any way. Ray bought me a lamp for the ironing area. Got some great fabric, Ankara from Love4Ankara and it's the original wax print from Holland. If you don't know about Ankara fabrics read some about it here. and The Origin of Ankara Beautiful fabrics, just beautiful. Looking forward to sewing it up this week. Namaste.

Burda Style

Made two pairs of comfy casual pants. The first ones I had a time with the pleats because I was not paying attention but the second pair, were the lucky charm. I love them I'm highlighting how to use a pressing board in areas that are hard to press. Like the top of the seam on a waistband. the points on a pointed accent piece. All in all it's a great pattern I highly recommend.. Fabric from Lorrains in Pawtucket, Rhoad Island.

Pleats it is

I wanted to make another Ankara print skirt so, I found a store in Pawtucket Rhoad Island of which I was directed to called Lorraines. Nice store but please note: GO UP STAIRS. There is more fabric to behold and great prices. Everyone is 2.99 and its mostly cottons. they do have some Ankara fashion prints same as online but, thing is, you don't have to buy 6 yards of the fabric. I cam away with at least 4 outfits to wear. I have to meet my goal of wearing more dresses this summer and being more comfortable in my own skin.. Dressing does that for you also. I also finished up a pair of custom Scrundies, as they call them, and they will be heading for Singapore. Yes, you read that right Singapore. As soon as she has her funds, we will do the transaction. She wanted the rainbow with turquoise lace and her order was fulfilled. Learn more about making the pleases fit my measurement after installing them and pulling them out twice, but finally, it came together. So here is my new skirt, and Scrundies for a customer.

Petticoat britches

Do you remember Petticoat Junction and Beverly Hillbillies when they talked about their petticoats. Well that was the stuff they were under those big dresses. They were more comfortable then because they were bigger. More air circulation if you ask me.. :) Well, this new pattern I have been working on and enjoying is called Boxers. But you call them what you want and i'll know what you are talking about. I made two more. Both Large and both different. One with Lower waist and band and one with longer legs and bands. Hope the bands are more comfortable. What I'm learning is it's good to do different kinds and see which one is optimal.. So here we go.. More Lady Boxers.. Bloomers...

For my sick Neighbor

Made these for my sick neighbor to cheer her. Glad to hear she liked them. Briefs:)

Know your needles

Stretch needles

Boxers or Brief

Well Michael Jordan made it famous and now I get to ask. Boxers or Briefs... but... for the ladies. I can make boxers for ladies and briefs. What I like about the Boxers, I swear there was another name for them back in the day and if you know what that was please do tell me. But I got the pattern this evening April 6 and had to sew them up. They are very comfortable. I mainly like them for when I wear a dress and in the summer your thighs get hot. This will fix that whole, I don't want to wear a dress or do I have to put on a dress??>. No excuse now. Except, I need more dresses.. :) Always something. Well here are my new Lady Boxers, I put lace on the legs and the waist band so, you know, we can tell who's is whose? lol I may even start a club. Get something once a month. with a subscription so you can get your briefs on.

Custom Order

Did someone say Rip it

Well today, I had good intentions on getting a few things done. Well, I got 2 out of my 3 so not bad. Except, they were very little projects that took me 3 hours. I spent at least an hour in the frog pond. I didn't want to go but it is Spring you know... So me and these two guys hung out today. I should name them, we bonded.. lol
So, I learned a lot about my Cover Pro. I love it. It sews smoothly and nice. it wasn't the machine it was operator learning curve. Learned how to look underneath to make sure you catch in all your seams. I threaded it twice to change thread colors. Threading is a big issue in serger world. So, I'm giving away a pair of thongs to a lady who wants to see how they fit. These next babies are for me. Love the lace. Applied that with the cover stitch machine. worked out great. Will do more applications as such.

I tried

Well, I tried to be a tester for a sewing group but didn't make the cut. Pretty sad. I think my skills are pretty darn good. But hey, maybe another time. In the mean time. I've made more undies. I make them because they are so comfortable. They are fun and they are easy and they are pretty and I try to improve my serging skills each time. Each time, getting the band and the waist to look perfect is my joy. My serger seems to take off on me and then I don't like that eeeeemmmm. sound like it wants to go and I won't let it. When you first start to sew, like it's not getting enough gas. Any way, I wish it did have speeds on it like my sewing machine so I could go slow and then go faster, but no, it just wants to jump in at 1100 miles per hour. Any way, here is my latest and more to be done tomorrow. with the reverse of what you see now.

Goat milk and lavender

Came out so good.  A must try

Girlie Girl Fluffs

I made some Undies for my girl friends two little loves. I hope they live they and enjoy wearing them together. This was the first attempt at making little tots but it was fun and most of all. easy. The way this pattern designer did them amazing. Thanks to A Sparkly Baby. She has a different way of getting the bands correct, of which I have never done. So, we will see how they work out when the girls receive them and mom lets me know how they fit. For now. there they are for two cuties. Laila and Aliya.

I'm back

Hello exciting readers. I'm back. I got some direction today and now I'm going to make an effort to write more about my Journey. Today, I asked about being a tester for sewing patterns. I'd love to do this. I have sewn since I can't even remember when I started but I know it was before age 12 when they did Home Economics. I've sewn many of my sons outfits when he was younger, I've sewn Winter coats and ladies lingerie. I had a show one time at a dear friends house show casing my lingerie. Then who knows what happened and it got packed up and now resides in the attic. Well. it's time to take that box down, Introduce my skills to a new age. I have recently purchased a overstitch and serger machine all because I wanted to sew Katwise coats. She is a fantastic designer of upcycled sweaters. She has a shop on Etsy and she always always sells out of her goods. So, now, I've been sewing again. I went to a Sweater Chop shop in January with Crispina Ffrench. Another wonderful women designer, textile artist. I even had my book signed. Each day I try to learn something more about fabrics fitting coordinates. Come and follow along as new things are about to happen..
